Manchester women's suffrage demonstration 1908

For International Women's Day I have blipped the mug that ClarissaFox brought for me as a present yesterday. The picture is The Bugler Girl by Caroline Watts (1868-1919). The poster was used first to advertise a demonstration in London in June 1908, then for another in Manchester on 24th October 1908. On the second occasion thousands of suffragists marched through Manchester to Alexandra Park for a political rally at which 30 people spoke. Clarissa does voluntary work for Alexandra Park, and often takes us there when we visit her. I will take tea from my mug with pride.

I have spent much of the day preparing dishes for a dinner party. Our guests are the Foxes, Katharine and Jack, and Winsford and Mr Winsford. On the menu we have:

Tomato, mozzarella and basil appetisers
Carrot and lemon soup
Roast pork, beetroot, green beans, hasselback potatoes
Hot chocolate brownies (thank you Ridgeback13!)
Cheese and biscuits

Today Clarissa and I also visited the Wildlife photographer of the year exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland. We both enjoyed it very much, although we did find some of the pictures rather disturbing.

Exercise today: walking (16,949 steps)
