Learning

I am guessing Kate was given the budgies for Christmas. The pinboard in the background suggests it was that time of year.

In my youth, I had budgies. Kate simply could not get enough of animals, regardless of what - from worms to ... well elephants, if she had her way.

And in 2018 not much has changed except that she has learnt about keeping animals in an environment fit for them. So nowadays she campaigns against circuses that have animals such as elephants and camels as well as puppy farming, caged chickens --- you name it, she fights for their rights to live a dignified life.

Having her own children now, she is passing on the importance of respecting life and while she considers she can offer hamster Snowy a good life, she would not have any caged birds that were not able to fly freely.

I don't remember what eventually became of our budgies. As many of us alarmed parents have experienced they are often found one morning in the cage with their legs poking up in the air. I don't remember a mad dash to the pet shop to find a replacement blue or yellow bird that answered to "Timmy" or "Tweety" or "Polly".

We can all make mistakes but we must all learn from them and pass on the message.
