Bronze Award

Ben is over the moon with the new badges he received this evening, particularly the bronze badge and certificate.

He got this one after his Beaver colony had entertained the residents of one of the local nursing homes with an evening of song.

He told me about when they all arrived in the big room the residents were in what happened before they started singing.

I know Ben would have had a big smile on his face and he caught the eye of Peggy, sitting on a chair at the front. She did a gesture tapping her knee with her hands for him to go over to her so over he went and she pulled him up on her knees with her arms round his waist . He sat like that for a few minutes till Bev the Beaver leader came over to get him but Peggy didn't want to let him go..... she was gently persuaded that Ben needed to join the rest for the singalong and then she let him go.

I wonder if he reminded her of perhaps a child of hers? She suffers from dementia and seeing Ben may have triggered a memory - who knows, it may just have been that she wanted a happy wee boy to cuddle.

Love how there is a lot of this happening here, young ones going into old people homes or care homes to brighten up the residents day.
