Wanderings & Witterings

Oor Wullie

Day Three of my visit to Perth and most of it was actually spent in Dundee! First up, a trip to see Claypotts Castle and then a wander round Broughty Castle, neither of them in Dundee itself but rather Broughty Ferry. Then it was back to Dundee as - coincidentally, as I didn't know this when I booked this break - Falkirk were playing away to Dundee United in an SPFL Championship match.

Unlike the tapestry and Pictish stones of the previous two days, this match was not a thing of beauty, nor was there much artisanship on show. The Bairns lost 1-0. Thankfully there are only three matches remaining in the current season. Not so thankfully, two of them are against the newly-crowned league champions St Mirren. Well done to them on gaining promotion.

Saw this sculpture of Oor Wullie, not sitting on his bucket for once, outside the McManus Gallery on my way to catch the bus up to Tannadice Park. An afternoon watching the Bairns would have wiped that smile off his face. Or maybe he's just laughing at the state of my favourite team.
