Locks Without Doors - Again

I first became aware of Locks Without Doors in a book, there was one image, and one very short paragraph, which actually told me nothing much at all. Subsequent internet searches proved fruitless, there seems to be no information at all about this 'art'. The big problem is that now that I am aware of them I am seeing them everywhere, and once one has seen them, one can't unsee them.
