75 years ago...

(bar a few months - late 1943) at this spot (by the monument on Calne/Cherhill Hill) we think GGP proposed to GGM while she was in training as a radio operator in the WAAF and GGP had just got home for the first time from Egypt on a troop ship after the Allies had regained control of the Mediterranean.  Married and honeymooned in the first few weeks of 1944, GGP returned to Egypt immediately afterwards and they did not see each other again until GGM went to Egypt in 1945 to join him in Suez.  I walked the circuit along the ridge line of the hill after Lacock on 3 May, while the Three were at Badders on a dressage day.
