Look out, Snugglepot!

Somewhat unsuccessful birding jaunt this morning at the Star Swamp Reserve. Didn't have a lot of patience. Did see a GINORMOUS bee nest/hive/swarm/thing inside a dead tree log. Took a few shots but there was some grass in the way and I was a little hesitant to get close enough to shift it. Anyway, saw this banksia and it reminded me of the May Gibbs stories I read and reread some years ago...

UPDATE: Turns out native bees that nest in logs are stingless. Maybe I'll go back and move the grass...
