The First Iris Blooms

I've been waiting and watching them for days. First, there were tall green stems, then little ballet toe-shoes wrapped tight. On Monday morning, I awoke and walked out into the yard to find the first several iris blooms had opened!

In these photos, you may see a very showy variety of old-fashioned iris. If only you could TOUCH, you'd know those brightly colored petals are smooth and silky as crushed velvet. . . .

There may be others who grow tired of watching the endless cycle of life, from bud to first bloom to petal-fall. But never me. For me, each time is as glorious as the first time, and we celebrate accordingly!

The song: Foreigner, Feels Like the First Time.
