Red Shed

The big red shed at Springbank on Oxford Road, a goods shed from the days of the Rangiora-Oxford-Sheffield Railway Line which opened in 1875. The line operated two mixed trains each way, carrying passengers and freight. After 1945 the service to Oxford was reduced to two goods trains operating weekly until the line closed permanently in 1959 as the competition from road freight increased.

The Moeraki Flag Station sits in the same paddock, just a little bit right to this shot and set back from the road, gradually being overtaken by the trees.

Great day for a drive in the country with the Puketeraki Range in the distance.

Happy Weekend all :)
