In New York, in 1900

A man, born in Akkrum, Holland, emigrated to the USA, made a fortune there. Around 1900 he built the biggest and fanciest mall in New York, very luxurious. Inside a fountain.

On a visit to Holland to his town of birth he was struck by old people living in poverty. So he had a housing project built for poor old people.

Today I visited an event in Akkrum. With cloth they recreated the mall in New York, inside a replica of the fountain. Akkrum turned into the New York in the year 1900, with 500 people in period clothes. A fabulous event. And a great tribute to Frank Cooper, born Frank Kuiper.
