Datura

Our good friend Chris, who has made quite a bit of furniture for us, came yesterday to take apart our bed and rebuild the headboard. Since it was built in, he had to detach it from the wall. Since the wall is 100 yr. old lath and plaster, substantial portions of it crumbled right down to the lath, leaving a large hole. Chris drove off with the headboard, leaving us to sleep with our lamps precariously perched on boxes. I felt as if my last haven had been breeched, and awoke in the feeling unmoored in increasingly rough seas.

Good news today, however. We finally have a closing date next week, so we will be in disarray, but at least not homeless! OilMan is upstairs dismantling yet more parts of the house before returning to his computer and his spread sheets.

And more good news in the fact that Obama has been re-elected. In my 3am panic, I found it strangely comforting to remember that. At least we'll have some continuity of government if not, for the moment, in our life.
