Bletchley Park

Having failed to get to Bletchley Park the other day Mum and I had rearranged it for today.
Despite being in the best of health Miss E couldn't go to school today due to the stupid 48 hour rule. Not the end of the world, she could come with us!
Bletchley Park is only about twenty minutes from my house and despite always intending to we've never been until today. Mrs T went when she was here last year and as her annual pass runs out in a couple of weeks it was definitely time to go!
What a fabulous place. It's very low key and all the more interesting and evocative for that! The huts where the Code Breakers worked look like they've just stepped out.
The audio of people chatting add to the atmosphere. I was giddy to be in the huts - walking on the actual floorboards where the actual Code Breakers walked!!
There was so much fascinating stuff - more than you can possibly take in in one visit. The grounds are so lovely too - complete with hidden speakers with sounds of a tennis match on the grass court, the whistles of steam trains, and the dispatch riders' bikes coming and going. I loved it!!
Miss E liked it too although she got a bit overwhelmed and just wanting to rush on to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing........
The maths and code displays fascinated her. In a different life she'd have worked at Bletchley Park!!
We were there late and had the huts to ourselves and were pretty much the last people there. It really wasn't too much of a stretch to imagine it in as it was during the war. Although the secrecy is hard to comprehend in our information saturated "transparent" lives.
