Another official (and not cheap) check

Like the chimney sweep visit recently, today Mr Schedel came to check our septic tank. As with the sweep these visits are obligatory and without their OK the authorities can "close" you down.
Of course there is a sense to it. As we are outside the village, we are not connected to mains sewage and our "waste water" runs off in to the nearby stream. There are various systems one can use, ours is a standard three chamber system but with an aerator which from time to time pumps air in to the second chamber to give the good bacteria a good dose of O². Naturally electronically controlled and I have to complete a control book each month with data & confirm that I have daily checked the system is working. Luckily there is an in-built alarm if there is a failure so have to admit I don't do a sight check.
All these checks are of course the stuff many like to quote as examples of European over regulation but I would rather pay a little & be able to breath the air and swim in the rivers without a thought.
On his November visit Mr Schedel always hands over the first Christmas present, a bottle of wine. Some consolation.
Apologies to Blipers again - up to my neck in work & feeling really lousy. Hopefully will get around to seeing your Blips soon.
