The accidental finding

By woodpeckers

In the night kitchen

Beans sleep slightly in silver cocoons
Spiders rebuild, expanding
beyond
the limits of daylight.

Small creatures are born
in crevices
the fridge hums on and on.

Cat flap twitches, cocking an ear
for morning, the intruder
the dazzling thief
of dreams.

Background: Rained this morning.
I got wet.
CleanSteve asked me why I'd brought an ancient tin of rusted screws into the house.
"Darlink," I said, "I am a blipper, too,
like you".
