The Drop of Death

This picture was taken on the road from Kathmandu to Chitwan in the winding hills. Our bus was stuck in a traffic jam on the narrow road and just out of view of this shot was either a car or a minivan that had plunged off the edge of the mountain and into the river. There were three rafts going down the river. Two are in view here and the third had paddled over to the edge to see what they could do to help. We couldn't see the extent of the damage or if there were any survivors, but the drop was sheer and it wouldn't have ended well.

I've been on this road four times now, and every time I'm on it I pray for the entire journey. Driving in Nepal is extremely perilous.
