Metallic beetle

Chrysolina herbacea

Massive storm yesterday with extensive flooding in the city. Geoff's wife saw cars literally floating along and was quite scared by the surreal image. Nothing in the web news so obviously not too serious an impact, but you can guarantee that not everybody had a good day.

I didn't bother starting my safari until the sun had a chance to dry off some of the surface water, so started clicking around 09:30am. Heavy rain affects the insect population and brings out insects not normally seen and subdues others. Lots of spiders and beetles today, not so many butterflies though. Dragons are always around no matter what the weather.

This was my favorite today. I had to shoot about thirty images to get one, because he was putting on some kind of mating display or it could have been a threat display at the intrusion of the big eye. The bug would vibrate its whole body, so I had to snatch images in between displays.

A very colorful bug with its metallic greens and browns. Not 100% about the identification, but it is close.
