A Gigantic Promise

During my walk yesterday, I walked up the historic avenue of Wellingtonia Redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum) planted in 1865 with over 200 trees, At around 150 years old, these specimens are still very young, but already dwarf their surroundings (extra).

As I walked, I picked up some of the pinecones, which on closer examination were a glorious reddy colour with intricate patterns.  So today I settled down to try to capture the essence of these small cones from which such large trees can grow.
