Send me three and fourpence, I'm going to a dance

It’s that time of the year again, when Holt and Sheringham host the 1940s weekend.  This event seems to get bigger every year.  M and I dressed up in our period clothes and accompanied by B took the vintage bus to Holt station and then the steam train to Weybourne station (for coffee and cake) and then onto Sheringham.

One of the things that makes the event special is the way most of the shops in the two towns dress their windows, and many of the staff dress up in forties clothes too (including Tesco in Sheringham).

The doll was part of a display in the window of the china section of the wonderful Blythe & Wright store, (an Ironmongers and tool shop, that sells just about everything, although not normally dolls).  The Dad’s Army characters were above one of the shops in Sheringham, there was also a model Spitfire crash-landed onto the porch of one of the shops and an unexploded bomb on another, they really go to a lot of trouble!

The train shot is a close up of Black Prince, a favourite of ours, such a huge, black, shiny, steaming beast of an engine, one cannot help but sigh with admiration whenever  one sees him in steam.

It was also very pleasing to bump into friends at various locations during the day and to have a chat about the event.
