Clutha + Hawea Rivers

The Clutha River (on the left)is the 2nd longest in NZ, has the highest volume of water and is the swiftest in NZ. It flows from Lake Wanaka to the Pacific Ocean.
The Hawea River 9the one on the right)flows from Lake Hawea into the Clutha, and this Blip is where they meet.

There are so many walking and biking tracks around these rivers - we are very spoilt. Jill and Frida biked/ran down Newcastle Track this morning, while I walked.

This evening we are going to hear a talk about The Alpine Fault. For all the beauty you see from Wanaka Blippers, we do have an Alpine Fault running through our region. It is known to produce magnitude 8 earthquakes every 300 years, and the last one was 301 years ago! We will hear about the potential outcome if we have a Magnitude 8 earthquake.
Scary stuff, but better to be forewarned.
