A Reflection for Today

Apparently the influx of thousands of waxwings which have appeared on our shores this last week could be the harbinger of a glacial winter, as happened in the mid sixties and as late as two years ago when we had one of the coldest winters on record.
Let's hope it's not a scientific fact.

His Lordship and I had a walk along the canal in the sun and then stopped off in our favourite watering hole.
I was amused to see, instead of the yummy mummies breast feeding their babies while we avert our eyes, a table of twenty somethings sipping coffee while knitting, crocheting and embroidering. I was fascinated as it was apparent that for some of them this was a new experience.
As His Lordship remarked, it was a modern day coffee house sewing bee.

The young ladies in question are far too young to know that women used to take 'their sock' with them as a matter of course when invited out to a hen evening. In the islands such as Shetland, women could walk and knit fair isle patterns as they went.

It seems a good idea to knit when sitting in waiting rooms. The airport would be an ideal place if only knitting needles were't considered lethal instruments and banned from carry on luggage.

Good luck to them because as we know, 'Satan makes work for idle hands'.
