It was so good to see some of these earthstars, Geastrum triplex, today on a Bucks Fungus Group foray in North Bucks. I do not understand why we see them so rarely now at Dancersend Reserve, where it was a speciality for many years. A series of dry years? Soil enrichment from increased atmospheric nitrogen deposits? Who knows? Some fungi do seem to go through extended cycles with long absences of fruiting bodies.
