Wagtail on its nest

Had to choose between two shots today - an ibis in flight or a wagtail on a nest! Went with the wagtail because the little round nest was so perfect, and not normally easy to see.

So have put ibis in my blipfolio. to check it out click here

Wagtails are very feisty birds, and will chase any size birds from magpies to wedge tail eagles - they'll even take on tiger snakes! They go for the rear of the animal rather than the head. They will also take on cats and dogs that venture into their territory, even though they are only about 20cm (8") long.

They mate for life. the nest is built of fibrous material bound together with spider webs, which you can see in the picture.

common in aboriginal folk law, the bird was believed to be a stealer of secrets!
