A journey from A to B (One Street)

A journey from A to B
Start at the stone boat
newly constructed neatness

Pass the wide island-dotted sea
Every changing
turquoise, verdigris, azure
copper, pewter, mercury

Pass the pier
fishing boats huddled against its spine
like mice in a nest,
Forlorn starfish abandoned on the seabed

Pass the pub
bike hire, fish and chips, a glass of black
A view to startle,
Stand and stare

Pass the bridge,
a copper strewn path to the river
stepping stones ,
the ghosts of ancient travellers

Pass the big house
home to the man
who broke the bank at Monte Carlo
or so they say

Pass the teacher's house
Fern strewn, scaffolded,
bad dogs that nip your heel

Pass the glass house
Stones were thrown
a marvel or transparent folly?

Pass the guinea fowl
the geese, the ducks
Buy some eggs (free range)

Pass my boreen
pot-holed, gorse strewn,
a secret garden below

Pass the flattened hill
carbuncled with holiday homes
the final curve
Onwards via the new
or upwards via the old
one street

I don't think the Poet Laureate is in any danger but check out the Forum if you're perplexed!
