We had the pleasure to be invited to Phoenix's 4th birthday party at the Water Of Leith Visitor Centre this afternoon. And what a fab party it was! If you know Phoenix, you'll know he is completely obsessed with pirates and it was only fitting that it was a pirate themed party with the Birthday Boy looking spectacular in his costume.

The visitor centre is small but perfectly formed, with a great interactive water exhibition on one side and a good sized room on the other. The kids had the run of the place and enjoyed playing in the exhibition space before being summoned into the party room where they all got to make and decorate their very own pirate boats using a variety of recyled materials. Pumped up and ready to race, we wrapped up warm and took a walk along the Water of Leith to a relatively shallow stretch of water where Pirate Charlotte placed the boats in the river to see which would win. We then had a treasure hunt with clues hidden in the woods for the kids to find, leading us back to the visitor centre and a treasure chest of booty (chocolate coins). Brilliant fun. Party food eaten, we headed home - exhausted but very happy shipmates!
