Snowdon Horseshoe in Winter [Y Lliwedd]

Today was one of the most exciting days of this year. Climbing Snowdon in winter, in snow, via one of the most dangerous routes: Surely too exciting an opportunity to miss.

We [myself and the Aber Expeditions Society] took the Miner's track to Llyn Llydaw, then turned off the stony path, heading for the dark precipices of Y Lliwedd. According to Wikipedia, Y Lliwedd has some of the highest cliffs in Wales, although I didn't really notice as there was minimal exposure.

After summiting Y Lliwedd, we progressed onwards to the Watkin path, then straight up 200ft of the Southern face of Snowdon. Abundant snowfall meant that this section was a complete whiteout. Overall a hugely enjoyable day.

-Small note on Rocky-

The Aber Expeds have a tradition of taking a small goat toy 'Rocky Exped' on all of their trips with them. For five years Rocky has traveled the world, tacking mountains in the Pyrenees and Sweden. Today I had the honour of carrying Rocky up Wales' highest peak. Halfway through our descent, near Llyn Glaslyn, I realised Rocky was absent from his carry pouch on my backpack, he must have escaped somewhere on the snowy hillside.

Needless to say I was distraught and have bought the Expeds a new Rocky.

RIP Rocky :(
