A brief glimpse into Polesden Lacey

An afternoon visit to this delightful national trust property near Dorking. Our first visit and one that we will definitely return to especially as the first floor was closed today. There were ‘actors ‘ who were dressed up to describe a 1930’s style Christmas at the house.

The house was owned by Margaret Grenville, an Edwardian high society hostess. A close friend of Queen Mary. She left all her jewellery to the Queen Mother and the Grenville emerald tiara was worn by Princess Eugenie at her recent wedding. It is also where George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the queens mother, spent 10 days of their honeymoon. We did have a brief walk around the grounds and rose garden which, I imagine, is just glorious in the summer. Set in 1,400 acres in the Surrey Hills, the views are lovely. A nice afternoon.
