FAIRY TERNS

The Fairy Terns are back and nesting in North Fremantle/Port Beach this summer.  Sadly there numbers appear to be low or perhaps I am early to see them.  These little fellas spend winter in the Kimberley region of Western Australia and fly south to nest around Christmas/New Year.  I do hope they are late starters to the nesting season.
The Fairy Tern has a body length of 22-27cm and weight of 57-85 grams.
They're so cute.
These three flew in, two of them with a fish, they had a little tete-a-tete and one flew off.  Something going on there.
I also spotted a couple of the chicks - speckled bits of fluff.

Thank you to all who called by the red poinciana flower.
