Petrus and La Tour casks

The warehouses in which the casks hold their slumbering spirit are places with an atmosphere all their own.
Lots of different casks are used to mature whisky at Bruichladdich, these are from the French Chateaux of Petrus and La Tour.
The majority of the wood comes from the USA however, having previously held bourbon. US bourbon distillers are only allowed to use the casks once, so once they have been emptied they are mostly exported - and the Scotch whisky industry has come to rely on this supply to a large extent.
