Iranian Photographer

I stopped into see the photo show at Photo Center NW where I have a membership. One show featured images by Iranian, Afghan, and Indian women. The purpose of their work was to " explore the role of women in the context of cultural constructs, religion, censorship, and the media" Photo Center NW "exhibition draws powerful parallels and invites us all to reconsider our personal roles as advocates of tolerance and diversity in our cities."

Here I show a couple images by Shadi Ghadirian, an Iranian photographer. In these two photos she portrays each woman to appear to be from around the turn of the 19th century, yet each one is holding a modern object. "These images represent a defiant study of female emancipation in the face of political and societal adversity. In Shadi's own words she says "It does not make a difference to me what place the Iranian woman has in the world because I am sure no one knows much about it."
