Pink dahlia, early morning

Dahlia are a flower that comes in many forms, thanks to having 8 chromosomes, where most plants have only two.

This is a cactus dahlia, with backward bending petals.

They are related to sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum and zinnia. Because they don't attract pollinating insects with scent they are usually brightly coloured.

They are the national flower of Mexico.
