Milford Sound

Today we had a spectacular day trip to the Milford Sound in the Fiordland National Park. It is truly impressive, with mountains rising 1 mile high from the sea. (We had planned to do this trip yesterday, but it was cancelled due to the heavy rain)
It is not easily accessible - it is either a 300km drive from Queenstown, or you can do what we did and fly on a small airplane. There is a tiny airstrip at the head of the Sound. Upon arrival we embarked on a 2 hour boat trip which took us as far as the Tasman Sea and back, past spectacular waterfalls and scenery.
Today's main photo is re-entering the Sound from the sea, the first extra is a pair of 'temporary' waterfalls. These are waterfalls which only flow when there has been recent rain - of which there was rather a lot yesterday
The second extra was taken  whilst passing over the Southern Alps on the return flight to Queenstown.
What a fantastic day!
