The Might of the Princes of the Holy Roman Empire

This collection of knightly armour dates from the 1540's.

The lead knight's armour is made by Lochner in Nuremburg in 1548 for Duke Johann Ernst of Saxe-Coburg (1521-1553) for his attendance at the Diet of Augsburg called by the Emperor Charles V in 1548 to try and resolve the crisis in Germany resulting from the Reformation.

The remarkable display is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
