Here we go again!

Notre-dame

I went down to the quais around 10am. There were lots of people there, looking across at the Cathedral. Some were people from the neighbourhood, discussing the repairs that would be necessary and their cost. Others were tourists. I identified with a prof I saw (from Dartmouth?) who seemed to be trying to reassure a group of pretty upset University students.

The damage isn't as bad as we feared last night. The three windows were spared but the steeple and wooden ceiling are gone and the organ is damaged.

I didn't try to go any closer than this today. At least the perimeter of Notre-Dame was closed to pedestrians, possibly more of the ile de la Cité as well. Subways and RERs weren't stopping at the stations that serve the Cathedral (Cluny-La Sorbonne and St-Michel-Notre-Dame).

J left early this morning to catch his flight back to Canada.
