V & A

The traffic was roaring past by 7.30 am so we got dressed and drove back over to the south side of the Tay Bridge, had breakfast, then got all our jumpers, coats, gloves and scarves on to brave the wind as we walked the 1.3 miles of the bridge. The walk/cycle path goes in the middle of the bridge so it was very noisy with speeding traffic so close on both sides of us.

First we visited the V & A which is a stunning building. The exhibition was of Scottish design - textiles, furniture, silver, architecture, ships, metalwork, jewellery, wallpaper, comics, utensils, set design, advertising, fashion and more. An eclectic mix, some with tenuous Scottish links. Photography was allowed with the exception of the first £10 note and an Alexander McQueen wedding dress.

From there we went next door to the Discovery Museum, giving the history of the ship built in Dundee in 1901 for Captain Scott’s first Antarctic voyage. It was well done for young people and adults too. Where they put all the vast quantity of food, animals, coal and 47 men bests me, as we then went on board the ship which has been restored, and it seemed small.

The blip shows part of the V & A looking towards the bridge we walked over. And it was a slog back, slightly uphill and into the wind.
