Shags

What a busy day. We took Anna and Chloe to the Farnes. The fret came in and our little boat was a bit lost. Eventually found Staple Island and after a while Brownstone, but no chat about Grace Darling as we floundered around and then it was announced we’d head back for the landing on Inner Farne. The sun was almost breaking through but the fog was thick and we could see from the sun we’d headed north, south, east and west. Eventually the buoys to guide us in were located by which time Anna was feeling decidedly queasy.

Once ashore we headed for the cliffs. In the 10 days since my previous visit birds were in different situations. Hardly any puffins were on the cliffs - they had mostly paired up and were popping in and out of the burrows. The shags were sitting on eggs, the kittiwakes were being romantic, th3 guillemots were shagging, and I saw several razorbill pairs which i’d not seen last time. It was a fabulous time to watch the birds. The hour passed far too quickly.

We got back 30 minutes late then headed up the coast to Holy Island where we had a walk to the castle and to the priory. The chapel was built by St Aiden in 600 and something.

Anna and Chloe treated us to a fish and chip supper at the Fishing Boat Inn at Boulmer.

We are all tired!

I was spoiled for choice of blips but loved the colour on this shag pair.
