Tuesday 24 February 2009: Sentry outside my offical office
Inspired by Rachel's comment ("And an official office ...sound a bit like the Queen yourself") this evening on the Victoria Rooms I have rushed out to replace the blip of my keyboard with this fellow, who stands sentry opposite my official office residence when in the west country :-)
He's actually a monument to the members of the Gloucestershire regiment who lost their lives during the South African Campaign (1899 - 1902). I like him because I feel we are linked through history and the relief of Ladysmith in 1899, when HMS Terrible and HMS Powerful landed four 12 pounder field guns to help in the relief of the siege.
