Halo

I've decided to change todays Blip to a picture of this evenings night sky.
Leaving the church after tonights beautiful candle lit carol service and switching off of the christmas tree lights, I looked up into the sky and surrounding the moon was this halo.
Not being of the astronomical bent, I don't know what it is and what causes this effect so was hoping someone could enlighten me.
