Quiz night shenanigans

K. impatiently texts me from the pub.  “Are you coming? The lawyers are here!” And with that, the aim of the evening becomes clear.  Whatever we do, we must score higher than them or we are in for a very trying evening.
I arrive as Louie is in the middle of a “My way” rendition, a capella, having stolen the quizmaster’s mic.  He’s drunk as a skunk .

The pub is heaving.  So much so that today’s price is £70.  The lawyers greet us with such warmth that even K feels slightly ashamed of his incredibly random animosity.

After retrieving the mike back following “Ave Maria” (an Italian song according to Louie), the quiz starts well with a round about The Beatles.  We ace it. Another good round for us and we are feeling quietly confident when disaster strikes and we find ourselves with plenty of blank questions.  In the meantime Dexter (a lovely fox terrier) has escaped from his owners and is happily humping my leg. With great gusto and enthusiasm.

In the end we end up in third position, and critically, behind the lawyers in second position.

I go home getting a precarious lift from R who has come on his bicycle with the leftovers of the bottle of wine in my coat pocket.  We have a pit stop in front of Rob’s house, who greets us energetically from the first floor open window, re-enacting a kind of surreal Romeo and Juliet scene....

Today another crown to defend….
