Australian Cicada (Cyclochila australasiae)

The commonly heard but not-so-commonly seen Australian green grocer cicada. The noisiest insect in southern Victoria (I'm not sure about the rest of Australia), its constant droning call is a mainstay of the background noise to an Australian summer, especially around Christmas time. Its noise was quite a shock to our Kiwi cousins, who are used to the polite little chirps of the smaller New Zealand species. Why does it not surprise me that the Aussie cicadas are bigger and louder than their Kiwi cousins. Just kidding.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a good Christmas Eve, and watch out for flying Rangifer tarandus tonight.
