Eider Drama

Fishing line hanging sadly from it's mouth this female Eider had a few problems on the beach of Seahouses harbour this morning.

I'd been taking loads of those cute shots of Eider ducklings - 15 in all -  then spotted this. We tried to catch it but in vain so decided the best course of action was to see if there was anyone around who could help or knew about RSPCA in the area. No sooner had I gone up to the boating kiosks than a fisherman from the boats said he could do it. He had rescued one yesterday apparently but sadly today was not his day.

We all tried to lure it up the beach with food and in the end as a last ditch attempt he threw his coat over it in the sea!! It was a very good coat I would add but it scooted underneath - see more wet coat in Extra! He did have Plan B and I hope for the Eider's sake it works.

We had to leave with a 5 hour drive ahead of us and stopped off on route to see my parents but are now at home with the dogs who are happy to see us!
