The World Through My Eyes

The Zebra Caterpillar

The caterpillars of the Cinnabar moth are almost as striking as the butterflies. They are bright yellow with black stripes and are also called zebra caterpillars. They specialize in the scrub herb. This is a poisonous plant and the caterpillars are also poisonous by eating it. They themselves are not bothered by it, but birds that eat such a caterpillar become "not tasty". The colors yellow and black, which we also see with wasps, warn the birds: "do not eat me". Jakobskruiskruid is nowadays also a common plant in the interior and the butterflies were able to spread. Now is the time, so pay attention during your walks in the coming days...
