Captain's Log

The new build

A new project at the boatyard is beginning to take shape. It is a 39 foot wooden sailing vessel being built in the traditional way, using carvel planking. That means the planks are laid edge to edge on a wooden frame. Your Blipper correspondent hopes to keep you up to date with progress on this vessel with a prospective launch date of spring 2014. It is very possibly the only traditional vessel of this size currently under construction in Britain at the moment. It would be great if someone knows otherwise.

So, starting at the bottom, or nearly so: this big lump of iroko is the wood keel which will sit on the lead keel. The latter has already been made and is sitting nearby.
