beautifulcontradictions

another blip in d minor

On this morning what is there to say
But: "cast your eyes around the world
And what is this but another day"
So I sit here by the fire, curled
In comfortable chair and pillows
Hearing what I would not hear
That continuity that everyone knows
That brightness never lasts a year.

I would be cheered, but how?
When those who aid are slaughtered?
When celebration turns to death and dismay?
Were that our life and time was quartered
Where news reflected gaiety
Not some repeating dire reality
Of loss of hope and the victory of fear
And so we welcome another bright starred year.
