Baird's Monument

Day One of 2013 so I'd better take this seriously :-) if I'm really to upload something every day of the year!

Today being an unexpectedly beautiful day (requiring sunglasses no less) I wandered out of the house in the early afternoon, camera in hand.

This photo was taken from Macrosty Park looking to the south-west and the monument you see is to a Sir David Baird who was a military man active in the late 18th/early 19th century. Clearly he was an important figure at the time and this is an impressive monument but equally clearly, that sort of fame doesn't really endure. We can only wonder at the motivation to erect such an imposing edifice.

Macrosty Park by the way was busy with people out with children & dogs. We are blessed with beautiful and extensive parks in Crieff despite having this wonderful landscape on our doorstep. The best of all worlds.
