Wild Chicory

I have a hard time walking past the chicory without taking a picture of it when I'm out taking photos, as I love its' bright blue color, its' shape, and it's abundance along the sides of the roads and in the fields that adds so much color to the landscape!  Not only are they pretty, they're useful too. The crushed leaves can be used as a poultice to decrease swelling. The root extracts have been used for diuretics & treating fevers & are known to have both antibacterial & anti inflammatory properties. However, if not used properly they can slow and weaken the pulse and decrease blood sugar, so I guess it's best not to try using it if you don't know what you're doing. :))  Thanks to Miranda for hosting her WildFlowerWeek!
