Point Loma Lighthouse

We made the trek to the Cabrillo National Monument at the tip of Point Loma. Incredible views of downtown San Diego, but the star was the original Point Loma Lighthouse, one of the first eight lighthouses on the Pacific Coast, which guided ships into the harbor from 1855 until 1891. For years it was the highest coastal light in the country, but fog and low clouds often made it difficult to see. In 1891 it was moved to a lower point on the 400 foot hill where this original one is now a museum and tourist magnet.
