We spent the day in Venice. Our train tickets from Milan were more expensive than our flights from England so we hoped we wouldn’t be disappointed, and we definitely were not.

Spent pretty much all day wandering around back streets, every corner we turned was like walking into another beautiful painting. We stopped for a picnic lunch with a view, then stopped again later for some gelato and again for some wine. All absolutely delicious. We did brave St Marks Square but it was so hideously busy that we quickly escaped back to somewhere quieter.

Had one last pitstop in the Giardini Pubblici for a drink, then meandered back along the edge of the city looking out at the sunset over the Adriatic. Stopped for dinner (more pizza, more wine), then bought some cannoli for the journey home and caught our train.
