Fungus Foray

This afternoon we went on a fungus foray at Whixall Moss, a free event for Wildlife Trust members.

First we went to look around the old scrapyard that the Trust bought in 2016. It borders the Moss which is a NNR so very important for wildlife. It has mostly been cleared after a huge amount of work here's more information. The exception is a massive bitumen tank found in the woods (extra photo). During the hot weather the tar melted and dripped out of the tank and has now hardened into all sorts of shapes.

Afterwards we walked on the Moss looking for fungi (plenty were found). The photo is of John Hughes, the fungus expert for the Trust telling us all about one of them with F looking on. I would be wary of eating any without an expert though!
