The Lozarithm Lens

The Old Forge (Thursday 10th October 2019)

This is the time of year for finding fungi, and I did not have to go far to see this, as it was spotted in the Woodland Garden on Gardening Wednesday. Despite any temptation I was reminded of the Croatian proverb, “All mushrooms are edible; but some only once.”

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Labelle - Playing at the End of the Universe (Orchestre Univers Version) (2019)
Discovering that The Wire magazine with the cover disc The Wire Tapper 51 was now in the shops, I realised that I had yet to play The Wire Tapper 49. Among its many delights was this by Labelle, not Patti Labelle's group but one Jérémy Labelle from Rennes in France. Through his family roots he discovered the politicised music of maloya, dating back to French colonisation and slavery and began making parallels between Underground Resistance and issues raised by musicians from his father's homeland, La Réunion, an island in the Indian Ocean. He now lives there himself and his third live album Orchestre Univers, from which this comes, was recorded there.
