Early One Morning............

St Margaret's Church, Barming, Kent.

Although there is no physical evidence now remaining, it is reasonable to suppose that there has been a Christian community based in Barming for nearly 1400 years. The present church was begun in the 12th century and is dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch, a colourful early saint. The original building was probably constructed in the early years of the twelfth century, being little more than a plain oblong building without aisle tower, porch or chancel arch. The tower, with its impressive spire, together with the porch and possibly the chancel arch, were constructed cl450.
